Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty, and sexuality in Greek mythology. She is often depicted as a sensual and desirable woman, and is associated with fertility, pleasure, and procreation. The name Aphrodite comes from the Greek word "aphros," meaning foam, as legend says she was born fully formed from the sea foam. In addition to being the goddess of love, Aphrodite was also a patron of prostitutes, as well as the protector of sailors and seafarers. She was worshipped throughout ancient Greece, and was also adopted by the Romans as their goddess Venus.
